Errick “Pach” Freeman is a Canton-based multidisciplinary artist with over 40 years of experience in technical craftsmanship and conceptual design.
His practice is defined by a mastery of diverse mediums, ranging from intricate glass fabrication and dimensional woodwork to the innovative use of reclaimed materials. Freeman is notably a pioneer of “pyrochromatics,” a specialized process that utilizes fire and controlled heat to transform pigments and textures into complex visual narratives.
Central to his work is the Bantu Bauhaus: Sankofa Legacy framework. This conceptual foundation bridges the gap between geometric modernism and ancestral storytelling. He often utilizes upcycled components such as glass bottles, salvaged electronics, and timber to explore the intersection of history and industry.
Whether through subtractive carving in wood and glass or the additive assembly of mixed-media sculptures, Freeman’s work focuses on the preservation of legacy and the alchemy of elemental transformation.
A dedicated figure in the Ohio creative community, Freeman is an original founding member of the Massillon Community Arts Council. His portfolio spans across private collections, juried exhibitions, and large-scale public murals, reflecting a career-long commitment to technical precision and cultural resonance.
Artist Statement
My work is an exploration of elemental transformation… the point where fire meets pigment and hand meets raw material.
Through the lens of the Bantu Bauhaus, I seek to reclaim and repurpose industrial and natural fragments, transforming them into dimensional narratives. Whether I am carving into the transparency of glass, shaping the density of wood, or utilizing heat to draw out hidden hues in a pyrochromatic piece, my goal is to honor the ‘Sankofa’ principle: reaching back into history to inform the present. I view my practice as a balance of technical precision and intuitive discovery, turning discarded objects into sacred markers of cultural legacy.
