Barred windows look over a safari in this handwoven tapestry. It is a miniature landscape made of chenille, cloth, copper thread, cotton, finger puppet, muslin, plastic doll-eyes, raw sheep’s fleece, and scraps of torn t-shirt. See a tiny leopard. Animal habitats fit in our pockets – soft, contained, beautiful in non-threatening zoos. Celebrate the rough, raw, wild natural sheep’s fleece against a vein of gold, a glimmer of copper. Precious metals. A safe visit to watch nature’s ferocity. Wild but domesticated cloth.

Catching Oil started as an ink sketch of the recent East Palestine, Ohio, train derailment whose environmental and human repercussions are still being assessed. This piece addresses the struggle and hope an individual has responding to catastrophic pollution – like oil spills and toxic atmospheric disturbances. It was handwoven on a TC1 digital loom in a four-layer structure of various woven patterns and fibers.
