Medusa
Wikipedia describes Medusa as:
…one of the three monstrous Gorgons, generally described as winged human females with living venomous snakes in place of hair. Those who gazed into her eyes would turn to stone.
I can’t remember specifically when I first encountered the myth of Medusa, but the earliest I can remember is seeing her depicted in the movie Clash of the Titans. My mom loved that movie and whenever it showed on television, she and I would watch it together. The thought of a character who was so beautiful that it was hard not to look at her, but so deadly that her gaze would petrify you and turn you to into a stone statue always fascinated me. Painting her left me with a lot of idea. Originally, her eyes were going to be left white, signifying the moment before you lose your life. Then I considered painting them metallic, or with a mirror finish, but I eventually chose a strong gaze, giving the viewer that feeling like she is peering into your soul.
Baby Boy
Amidst the festive cheer of yet another Christmas gathering at my fiancée’s parents’ home, a memorable scene unfolded: her niece’s one-year-old son stole the spotlight. Clad only in a diaper and brimming with restless energy, he awaited his moment to shine. As his aunt swooped in to rescue him from his confines, lifting him high in a gesture reminiscent of “The Lion King,” the room erupted in laughter and delight. With my trusty camera in hand, I instinctively captured this heartwarming moment, immortalizing it within the confines of a frame.
Thus, the inspiration for the “Baby Series: Baby Boy” was born. Still a work in progress, this collection embodies the joy and spontaneity of infancy, capturing fleeting moments of innocence and wonder. As I delve deeper into this artistic exploration, I am enamored by the evolving direction of the series, each brushstroke bringing to life the cherished memories of that special Christmas gathering.
Exhale
“Smoker Series: Exhale” stands as a captivating portrayal, capturing a moment of profound tranquility and release. The focal point of the painting is a woman, depicted in a state of serene contemplation as she exhales a plume of smoke from a cigar. Each brushstroke is meticulously crafted to convey the essence of relaxation, with the warm glow of the lighting enveloping her features in a soft, inviting aura. Her expression exudes a sense of calm assurance, while the elegant lines of her fingers delicately cradle the cigar, inviting the viewer to share in her moment of repose.
Positioned against a subtly muted background, the subject’s form commands attention, evoking a sense of dynamic movement within the frame. This juxtaposition of stillness against a backdrop of subdued tones adds depth and dimension to the scene, drawing the viewer deeper into the atmosphere of quietude and reflection. Through “Smoker Series: Exhale,” the artist invites us to partake in the subject’s journey of inner peace and contentment, encouraging us to embrace the serenity found in moments of solitary indulgence.
Andre 3000
I’ve created a growing series of paintings featuring the iconic music artist Andre Benjamin, also known as Andre 3000, one half of the Grammy-nominated group Outkast from Atlanta. The first painting in the series, titled “Tres Pilas” captures Andre in a unique blue tone against a striking yellow background. This piece, measuring 36 inches wide by 24 inches tall, showcases Andre wearing a stylish fedora, rendered in acrylic on canvas. The vibrant colors and dynamic composition reflect the energy and creativity that Andre 3000 brings to his music and persona. This painting was quickly snapped up by an eager collector, underscoring its appeal and the resonance of Andre’s image with art enthusiasts.
The second painting in the series simply titled, “Andre 3000” portrays Andre in a highly realistic style, donning a beret and an outfit with bold black and orange stripes. Measuring 12 inches wide by 36 inches tall, this piece stands out for its meticulous attention to detail and lifelike representation. Fans of Andre 3000 often find themselves drawn to this painting, appreciating the way it captures his unique fashion sense and charismatic presence. Like its predecessor, this artwork was also purchased by a dedicated collector, highlighting the strong connection between Andre’s fans and the visual art that celebrates his influence and legacy.
Angel Number Two
Angel Number Two is a mesmerizing painting that showcases the ethereal beauty of an angel using only blue and white hues. The limited color palette adds to the painting’s serene and contemplative atmosphere. The angel appears deep in thought, with completely white eyes that evoke a sense of otherworldliness and introspection. The intricate design of the wings, with each line meticulously crafted, highlights the artist’s attention to detail and skill, creating a stunning visual impact.
The angel’s beauty is captivating, with a halo resting gracefully above her forehead, enhancing her celestial presence. The use of blue and white not only emphasizes the purity and tranquility of the angel but also creates a striking contrast that draws the viewer’s eye. This painting invites viewers to pause and reflect, to get lost in the intricate details and the peaceful expression of the angel. Angel Number Two exists to me as my attempt to convey deep emotion and thoughtfulness through a minimalist yet powerful use of color and detail.
