Bio
Artist Vicki Boatright, known as “BZTAT” (pronounced bee-zee-tat), is the preeminent pet portrait artist for the Contemporary Pet Lover. Animal loving art collectors worldwide have commissioned artworks by BZTAT to celebrate their relationships with their beloved pets. Vicki also creates murals and other artworks that address a variety of themes.
Vicki holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and a Master of Arts Degree in the visual arts from Marshall University in Huntington, WV. She also holds a Masters Degree in counseling from Marshall University. She worked as a mental health therapist for 20 years, and more recently she led an arts studio and gallery for individuals with developmental disabilities. Currently she runs her own studio/gallery, offering classes and individual instruction. Vicki tailors her instruction to accommodate persons with special needs so that all people of all abilities have an opportunity to create.
BZTAT Studios LLC is located in the trendy Canton, OH arts district at 309 6th Street, NW. Inside is a gallery/studio with an independent film theater integrated into the gallery space. Featuring artwork by BZTAT, photography by Aimee Lambes and films presented by the Cut Cinema, BZTAT Studios is a multi-media fine arts experience.
Vicki lives with her 3 fabulous felines: Mia Meow, Ellie (AKA Little Schtuffs”) and Sky in Canton, OH.She signs her artwork “BZTAT” in homage to a feline companion of that name, who was an artistic inspiration to her for 19 years.
Artist Statement
Artist BZTAT is world renown for her Premiere Contemporary Custom Pet Portrait Paintings. These portraits are highly customized and have won wide acclaim for their artistry as well as their unique manner of capturing the character of their animal subjects.
Premiere Contemporary Custom Pet Portrait Paintings are colorful interpretations that reflect the unique characteristics of pets in a semi-abstract pop art style. Unlike many pet portrait artists who do quick formulaic digital interpretations, BZTAT gives each painting a very deliberate personal touch. These paintings take many hours to complete due to BZTAT’s technique of layering various colors to develop her unique style.
“I feel as though I am petting the animal with each brushstroke,” says BZTAT. “The process of painting a beloved pet is a very intimate affair, as I must actually feel the relationship between the animal and its human to make the artistry come alive. Even if I have not met the animal or person in real life, I feel a connection to them through the process.”
