The Ohio Artist Registry (OAR) is an exciting opportunity for artists to share their work, connect with the creative community, and establish an online presence—all on a free, virtual platform! The OAR encourages artists working in all art forms, throughout Ohio and beyond,  to create a profile, which allows them to better promote themselves and their work. Being listed in the OAR provides artists with new opportunities to share their work with clients, galleries, patrons, and audiences. A listing in the OAR does not confer an endorsement, approval, or verification by the Ohio Arts Council.

Susan Hanna

Field of Poppies

Bio

Susan Hanna paints portraits of men and women in the news.  Using her cell phone as a prop, she brings to life the complex personalities of politicians and pundits.  Painting a glimmer of a smile or an intense keen searching gaze, Susan shows the characteristics of an individual and the experiences that go into the makeup of a significant life.

Her interests are wide and varied, and one month she paints flowers – roses, poppies, hyacinths, and peonies, and the green leaflets of a lupine at the base of a hill – and the next month abstract designs.  In the year 2019 she put together a bookcase of 50 American Patriots measuring 4 ft high and 2-1/2 ft wide and consisting of four shelves; each book cover used in a unique way red, white and blue fabric which Susan treated with wax and baked in an oven at 300 .  This bookcase was exhibited at Roy G. Biv Gallery the December before the onset of pandemic in March of 2020, and the bookcase’s demise was symbolized by public inactivity and the absence of publicity those 15 long oppresive months. My bookcase stands in my living room, a tribute to the will to overcome obstacles and celebrate life.

She holds a Master’s degree in English Literature and has published two books – one on literary criticism numbering 375 pages called Required Reading and another called Classic Baseball.  Having grown up with three older brothers, there was lots of talk about baseball in the house.  Both of these books can be purchased on Amazon and shipped to your home.
