The Ohio Artist Registry (OAR) is an exciting opportunity for artists to share their work, connect with the creative community, and establish an online presence—all on a free, virtual platform! The OAR encourages artists working in all art forms, throughout Ohio and beyond,  to create a profile, which allows them to better promote themselves and their work. Being listed in the OAR provides artists with new opportunities to share their work with clients, galleries, patrons, and audiences. A listing in the OAR does not confer an endorsement, approval, or verification by the Ohio Arts Council.

Bio

I have worked in a variety of mediums for seven decades. I began with crayon and rocks . I was a porcelain painter during the eighties, a bronze sculptor during the seventies. The nineties saw a great deal of ceramic tile painting with underglaze and overglaze on bisque tile..later I made quite a few relief mosaics from clay tiles made organic shapes. The largest piece in that method measured 8’x4′.  It was a version of a John Waterhouse painting, in 3-D ceramic. All along I have drawn and painted..working in watercolor and oils for the most part; making paper mache dolls, reliefs, set decorations, and props for plays and doing scenic painting for community theater. At the moment I’m working on some portraits from old photos of ancestors, and from living persons who want portraits with an element of spirit. I have an MA in Art History, and a BFA in Studio Arts. I love investigating artwork done by others, and enjoy being impacted by the initial encounter with these things. My own work is just in my nature to do…to design, to attempt to manifest some idea so it can be seen by someone else.

Artist Statement

I have no ‘statement’ at this time. I tend to feel the art should speak for itself and not need an interpreter or a team of attorneys to guide its effect.  Having said that I know people want a good story. I’m sure I have plenty to say about art, about individual pieces. But my happy moments as a ‘creator’ is when in the flow of making a thing; it sort of takes on a life of it’s own and that life is pretty precious to me; that’s when I coax the thing to be born, become gentle with that part of the process so that I don’t assume too much about the direction. Sometimes in painting I can compare it to riding on a horse where a canter becomes a gallop you didn’t want, but the horse is so intent, that you just let him have his head and ride it out…maybe jump a fence you didn’t know was there?
