The Ohio Artist Registry (OAR) is an exciting opportunity for artists to share their work, connect with the creative community, and establish an online presence—all on a free, virtual platform! The OAR encourages artists working in all art forms, throughout Ohio and beyond,  to create a profile, which allows them to better promote themselves and their work. Being listed in the OAR provides artists with new opportunities to share their work with clients, galleries, patrons, and audiences. A listing in the OAR does not confer an endorsement, approval, or verification by the Ohio Arts Council.

Bio

I live in Westerville, Ohio, with my husband, Gary. We have one son, Matthew, who lives in Westerville with his wife, Penny, and their daughter Emilia. I grew up in a very small community located in St. Clairsville, Ohio the eldest daughter of Paul and Stella Zavacky. My dad was a coal miner, and my mother was a stay-at-home mom. While I did not have any exposure to the world of art at a young age, I always liked to draw especially pictures of flowers, trees, and people. You might say I was good at the art of doodling.

From my humble beginnings, I went on to I graduate from Ohio University with a BS and MA in Education and earned my Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in online instructional design. I retired in 2019 after over 40 years as a teacher and educational leader. I began studying art at the David Myers Gallery and Art Studio, Westerville, in 2017. Under his tutelage, I started a personal artistic journey that became my right of passage from retirement to a new era of exploration, transformation, and evolution into the visual arts.

Artist Statement

The art of reaching into your soul and setting your spirit free to dance on the canvas. Kathleen Norris 2022

Growing up in rural Belmont County, Ohio, I have always appreciated the beauty of art in nature. I am often mesmerized by a field of flowers in full bloom, a sunset after a spring storm, or the glow of autumn leaves. My paintings reflect my humble attempt to capture and share the beauty of God’s artistry through the lens of my heART. My hope is my paintings are to others a source of inspiration, hope, and gratitude for all things good and beautiful
