The Ohio Artist Registry (OAR) is an exciting opportunity for artists to share their work, connect with the creative community, and establish an online presence—all on a free, virtual platform! The OAR encourages artists working in all art forms, throughout Ohio and beyond,  to create a profile, which allows them to better promote themselves and their work. Being listed in the OAR provides artists with new opportunities to share their work with clients, galleries, patrons, and audiences. A listing in the OAR does not confer an endorsement, approval, or verification by the Ohio Arts Council.

Bio

Deborah Loiacono (DSL Art) is a professional watercolor pet portrait artist and lifelong resident of the Cleveland area.  Retired from a career in library administration and teaching, she is an art enthusiast and animal lover who found the perfect outlet for her passions.  Her exhibit calendar is available on her website @ DSLPaintsPets.com and includes shows in the gallery in Cleveland Hopkins Airport, in various Northeastern Ohio libraries, at local pet fairs, juried shows, and restaurants/coffee houses.  Her work is also displayed on Instagram @ deborah.loiacono.58.  She is currently accepting pet portrait commissions.

Artist Statement

Deborah’s process begins with an accurate drawing from reference photos.  She lays down light initial washes and builds layers of color, illustrating fur textures, using wet-on-wet for softness, and fine brushstrokes for details.  She uses lifting techniques in light areas.  Deborah particularly enjoys experimenting with granulating colors, direct blending, and graded washes.  “The sense of love and meaning animals bring to our everyday lives is something I strive to illustrate in my work.  My challenge is to show the unique personality of my subjects.  My reward is the smile (and sometimes chuckle) I witness when viewers see the finished portraits for the first time.”
