The OAR encourages artists working in all art forms, throughout Ohio and beyond, to create a profile, which allows them to better promote themselves and their work. Being listed in the OAR provides artists with new opportunities to share their work with clients, galleries, patrons, and audiences. Bio
Deborah August Duchscherer started her post high school fine arts education at Cleveland Institute of Art in Cleveland Ohio where she completed the two year foundation program that was offered. Moving to Pennsylvania lead her to continue her arts education in Philadelphia were she acquired a BFA with a double major in Painting and Drawing and a minor in Weaving and Fibers from the Philadelphia University of the Arts (Philadelphia College of Art) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
As life would have twists and turns it brought her back to the Cleveland area to the semi-rural area of Geauga County Ohio. Currently she works part-time as a graphics designer for a print publication, The Good News, a division of Douthit Communications, Inc. in Middlefield, Ohio helping her offset the goals of working in her studio full time.
Her art pieces have been accepted into a number of juried shows around the Cleveland area, including the following juried shows: 2020 waterloo Arts Juried Show, 2020 Waterloo Art of the Ornament, 2021 Bryn Du Art Show, 2021 Lakeland May Show, 2021 Bay Arts Juried Show, 2021 Cuyahoga Valley Art Center Floral and Landscapes Exhibition, 2022 Cuyahoga Valley Art Center Human Figure Exhibition.
Deborah works in a variety of mediums including watercolors, acrylics, oils and pastels. She also creates works of art using gourds and found objects in nature. Currently she is working on combining her design work and painting works in 3D collage creations.
Artist Statement
My art comes from me seeing beauty and whimsy from my personal experiences, whether in creating my gourd and found 3 dimensional pieces or in a two dimensional art work. I work in a variety of media creating 3D gourd and collected pieces as well as in a variety of 2D media – pastel, watercolor, acrylic and oils.
