The Ohio Artist Registry (OAR) is an exciting opportunity for artists to share their work, connect with the creative community, and establish an online presence—all on a free, virtual platform! The OAR encourages artists working in all art forms, throughout Ohio and beyond,  to create a profile, which allows them to better promote themselves and their work. Being listed in the OAR provides artists with new opportunities to share their work with clients, galleries, patrons, and audiences. A listing in the OAR does not confer an endorsement, approval, or verification by the Ohio Arts Council.

Artist Bio

Ohio resident Christine Deemer has found her passion in the encaustic medium aka hot wax painting.  She moved to Ohio in 2014. She has been welcomed into the area arts community with open arms receiving accolades, awards, gallery showings, job offers, teaching opportunities, and more. Her talent and ambition to continue learning and exploring new ways to work with the encaustic medium has continued to keep her creativity flowing. Deemer originally painted in oil or acrylic after earning her BFA until she was introduced to the encaustic medium. Here she explains her immediate interest, “There is an aspect of working with hot wax that reminds me of clay, with its ability to be molded and carved into. In addition, working with a liquid that quickly becomes a solid is also exciting”. The medium gave way to her applying her multifaceted talent to creating dimensional seascapes and flowers.

Christine Deemer holds a Master of Arts in Museum Studies, (Western Illinois University), a Master of Business Administration, (Regis University), and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Colorado.  Making art has been a lifelong pursuit. Her mother was an artist and her father an educator, they were instrumental in supporting her art studies, encouraged her to study art in college and then returning to get her business degree. Ms. Deemer’s childhood in southern California was the root of her appreciation of all aspects of ocean life.

Before Ms. Deemer settled here in NW Ohio, she called herself a “corporate gypsy”. Her partner’s job transfers have landed them in locations around the country and as far away as The Netherlands where she took portrait painting classes and had two exhibitions. The ocean has been a constant through their moves. “I’ve lived in many places typically near a body of water, be it a lake, river, canal or sea. Today, travel and water is synonymous. During the cold Ohio winters, my travel experience and findings help keep me inspired and connected to warmer days.”

Artist Statement

As an encaustic artist, I use beeswax, tree resin, and natural pigments to create textured seascapes that reflect the beauty and fragility of our oceans. My work is deeply inspired by the need to protect marine environments, with a particular focus on raising awareness about plastic pollution. Each painting layers molten beeswax, Demar tree resin with oil pigment, and other natural materials, creating luminous, multidimensional surface that captures the movement and depth of the sea. The encaustic medium, an ancient technique, allows for sculpting and layering, symbolizing the complex layers of life beneath the ocean’s surface. By showcasing the delicate interplay between light, water, and marine ecosystems, I aim to inspire a deeper connection to our oceans and encourage action towards reducing plastic waste for a healthier, more sustainable future.
