The Ohio Artist Registry (OAR) is an exciting opportunity for artists to share their work, connect with the creative community, and establish an online presence—all on a free, virtual platform! The OAR encourages artists working in all art forms, throughout Ohio and beyond,  to create a profile, which allows them to better promote themselves and their work. Being listed in the OAR provides artists with new opportunities to share their work with clients, galleries, patrons, and audiences. A listing in the OAR does not confer an endorsement, approval, or verification by the Ohio Arts Council.

Bio

Cathy Jenkins Art Bio – Ohio Arts Council Artist Profile

Cathy Jenkins has been an artist since her childhood days documenting many years in watercolor, often painting scenes from her home and her life on her family’s farm. As she has grown in age and ability, she has mastered other mediums as well, like acrylics and fabric, but always coming back to watercolor.

Cathy has kept a detailed log of all her paintings. Photographing each piece herself, she records the name of each piece and notes whether these various pieces have sold. She only does individual pieces, never copies of work. The main exception to this is when she has done similar pieces that were featured in a series.

In the past few years, Cathy had shifted her creative focus to her garden and other arts and crafts. With encouragement to create smaller works, such as a bird and a bird house rather than a landscape, smaller works that can be printed on a mug or the cover of your journal, Cathy began painting again.

While she is an exceptional artist, she said at this point in her life, she enjoys having someone come and share the space with her as she paints. Not as an instructor, but as a friend who understands what it means to be an artist. Working with people who understand what it means to be an artist spurred her most recent projects.

Cathy has painted everything from people to plants, to buildings, to landscapes, and her most recent selection, commissioned pet portraits from your favorite photo.

In 2025, Springfield has seen a resurgence in Cathy’s work from month-long displays at Speakeasy Ramen, the Wes Banco Building, United Senior Services, and a juried show at the Springfield Museum of Art. In the past 6 years, she has had pieces chosen for other juried art exhibits with the Art and Soul Exhibit at the Dayton Metro Library and Accessible Expressions Art Exhibit (Accessible Expressions Ohio) which travels around the state for one year.

Up until now, you had to experience Cathy’s art in person to be able to purchase a beautiful watercolor piece. She is a staple at Uptown Dreams – City Art Studio, located at the Hatch Art Studios in downtown Springfield, where she often sells her work.

The release of her online store, Cathy’s newest endeavor, is taking both Cathy and her art into the digital age. Working with Kari Johnston, she began exploring the ability (opportunity) to reach a broader audience than Springfield. Kari has helped see this project come to fruition, creating an online store.  You will now be able to see her work as well as purchase original paintings, prints, cards, aprons, mugs and more.

And while she has a few upcoming shows on the calendar, she knows how to escape the hustle and bustle.  Cathy will show you the stillness of her art, which tells a story all its own.
