The Ohio Artist Registry (OAR) is an exciting opportunity for artists to share their work, connect with the creative community, and establish an online presence—all on a free, virtual platform! The OAR encourages artists working in all art forms, throughout Ohio and beyond,  to create a profile, which allows them to better promote themselves and their work. Being listed in the OAR provides artists with new opportunities to share their work with clients, galleries, patrons, and audiences. A listing in the OAR does not confer an endorsement, approval, or verification by the Ohio Arts Council.

Bio

Born in Alliance, Ohio, in 1976, Amy Gibson’s artistic journey began in the American Midwest. She pursued painting at The University of Akron, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in 1999. Her continued training in traditional techniques provided the technical rigor necessary for her later mastery of portraiture. Over the course of her career, Gibson has balanced her personal studio practice with a deep commitment to art education, serving as a bridge between the professional art world and the community.

Beyond the gallery walls, Gibson is a prolific educator. She has held the position of Museum School Coordinator and instructor at the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington, North Carolina. Her teaching portfolio includes workshops and classes at various institutions, including The Cuyahoga Valley Art Center, Bayarts, Valley Art Center, and Orange Art Center, as well as privately.

One of the most remarkable milestones in Gibson’s career is her involvement in the Lunar Codex Project. In partnership with NASA’s Artemis program, the Lunar Codex is a series of time capsules designed to preserve human creativity on the Moon. Ten of Gibson’s works were selected for the Polaris Collection, archived digitally and launched to the Lunar South Pole.

Gibson’s artwork has been featured in Fine Art Connoisseur and American Art Collector Magazine.  She has shown in PTFN at the Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art, Teaching Artists at Cameron Art Museum, and is internationally collected.

Artist Statement

I paint portraits because I’m drawn to what a person carries quietly beneath the surface — the mood, the tension, the hope, the private truth that can be felt before it can be explained. My work reaches for what can be felt before it can be named, and that quiet space is where the portrait feels most alive to me.
