The Ohio Artist Registry (OAR) is an exciting opportunity for artists to share their work, connect with the creative community, and establish an online presence—all on a free, virtual platform! The OAR encourages artists working in all art forms, throughout Ohio and beyond, to create a profile, which allows them to better promote themselves and their work. Being listed in the OAR provides artists with new opportunities to share their work with clients, galleries, patrons, and audiences. A listing in the OAR does not confer an endorsement, approval, or verification by the Ohio Arts Council.

Bio
Aaron Sheldon is a lens-based artist and educator from Columbus, Ohio. His work investigates time, place, and human impact on the environment through photographic and alternative image-making processes. Working across the visible, infrared, and ultraviolet spectrums, his work merges modern technical capture with traditional and alternative darkroom processes, integrating both image capture and material presentation through methods including cyanotype and other UV-based processes, traditional silver gelatin, and archival pigment and sublimation prints on traditional and experimental and unconventional materials.
Sheldon’s practice is grounded in a craftsman’s understanding of photographic tools and materials, informed by a rigorous engagement with the science of light across multiple spectrums. His work reflects a sustained inquiry into how people shape, and are shaped by, their surroundings, often revealing aspects of the built and natural environment that exist beyond human perception.
In addition to his studio practice, Sheldon has more than 15 years of experience as a mentor and educator. He has taught and supported artists through individual instruction, group workshops, and community-based arts programs, with an emphasis on developing artistic vision, critical engagement, and strategies for advocating for creative work.
His work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions in Columbus, Ohio; New York City; and Washington, DC, and published internationally in print, online, and broadcast media, including CNN, USA Today, The Columbus Dispatch, and Vogue Italia. His photography has also been licensed by and featured with organizations and brands such as Target, Hampton Inn & Suites, OSMO, and Public Radio International (This American Life).
Artist Statement
I am a lens-based artist working across documentary, street, editorial, architecture, and digital infrared photography. My practice bridges digital and analog methods, incorporating film photography alongside alternative processes including cyanotype and platinum-palladium printing. I examine the intersection of time, light, and human impact, using the photographic moment as a point of convergence.
My approach is grounded in a disciplined understanding of light, materials, and process, combining technical precision with a meditative way of seeing. Working across visible and infrared capture, as well as hand-coated printing methods, I create images that range from naturalistic to surreal, unified by a focus on perception and transformation.
My work has been exhibited internationally and featured in Vogue Italy, CNN, USA Today, and The Columbus Dispatch. I have collaborated with brands including Target, Hampton Inn & Suites, and Osmo, and have exhibited in Columbus, Ohio, and Washington, DC.
