Punch Drunk
Punch Drunk – 2020 – 84”X168”X2” – Photocopy, chalk paint, thread – My first attempt at describing the Universe using five pointed stars as both positive and negative. Made during the height of the pandemic, painting stars daily became a ritual of marking time.
Business
Business – 2022 – 16”X17”X3” – Briefcase, color aid paper, matte medium, gun – Businesses/fetish object conceals a gun covered in the same pattern.
A pattern of concentric rectangles, one within another until they became to small to manage with the help of a needle.
Detail/Business
Business – 2022 – 16”X17”X3” – Briefcase, color aid paper, matte medium, gun – Detail of the interior of Businesses/fetish object conceals a gun covered in the same pattern. Although the effort to make the interior + gun was extensive I prefer to show the piece with that labor concealed.
Family
Family – 2023 – 28”X18”X18” – wood, sculptamold, paint, modeling paste, fluorescent ink – Billionaires listed, at the time 2,611 names inked in formal cursive with a quill pen circumventing the rock-like form. Throughout the list the refrain of and Family confirmed and reiterated how wealth was managed and retained by the few at the expense of the culture in general.
Globe2
Globe – 2021 – 24″X24″ – 1/4 ” plexiglas, matte medium, photocopy – Two images of the globe are sandwiched on the front and back surfaces of the plexiglas to illustrate the global disorder, the disruption to civility and the world generally going out of focus. Also a flat earth joke built into it’s making.
Lungs
Lungs – 2022 – 18”X18”X4” – neck pillow, India ink, white chalk paint – During lung cancer treatment the hospital gifted me a neck pillow with a trachea graphic, I stained and layered it with paint. The vulnerability of the lungs became paramount and the weird comfort built into this gesture by the hospital seemed appropriately odd.
Baton
Baton – 2019 – 32”X5”X5” – dowel rod, enamel paint, toothpicks – Commemorating the moment when Police were beating people, protesting police brutality, while the virus ravaged the most vulnerable. I sat on my porch and whittled a baton.
Pedestal
Pedestal – 2021 – 60”X16”X16”- Book bag, Plexiglas, Matte medium, photocopy – Book bag worn throughout Trump’s presidency, his expression screams but his lenticular eyes wink. The bag is stuffed and sewn shut and resting on Pence’s distorted head commemorating the January 6th event.
Gun Show 1&2
Gun Show – 2024 – Each 50”X38”X2” – wood, raw canvas, graphite – 13 guns pointed in all directions. Perspective, flatness and edge contradict a simple read as you move past the work. Shown here from a side view to illustrate the distortion and illusion that occur as you navigate a relatively simple image.
Gun Show 13
Gun Show 13 – 2024 – 144′ X 48″X2″ – wood, raw canvas, graphite – AR-15 style rifles have been used in several high-profile school shootings in recent history, including Sandy Hook Elementary School, Parkland High School, and Robb Elementary School.
