At Any Rate

24″x24″
Acrylic, paper, and fibers on canvas
$750

“At Any Rate” renders a striking close-up image of a human thyroid gland. The thyroid section shows the spherical cells, called follicles, filled with the oh-so-necessary hormones (in red) that regulate our basal metabolic rate and the absorption of calcium in the bones.
It always amazes me how artistic nature is under the microscope.

Gotta Have the Guts

24″x24″
Acrylic and paper on canvas

“Every day, to keep moving forward and put up with stuff, you gotta have the guts. It’s crazy out there, man!”

This thought, and a dramatic close-up image of the duodenum wall, inspired this painting.

Let’s Go For a Drink

Look at that exquisite artistry. I did not know we had hexagonal-shaped things in our liver! Apparently, this beauty is where our liver cells work hard to remove the absorbed nutrients or the poisons, such as alcohol, from the blood.
And that’s why we can go for a drink with no fear.
Fascinating.

Let’s Hear It

20″x24″
Acrylic and paper on canvas

The painting is a representation of the cochlea, a fluid-filled spiral tube lined with sensory hair cells. The sound waves entering the cochlea displace the fluid that surrounds the tiny filaments projecting from the hair cells, causing them to bend. The movement is converted to a signal by the cochlear nerve and carried to the brain. And that’s how we hear, folks.
