The Ohio Artist Registry (OAR) is an exciting opportunity for artists to share their work, connect with the creative community, and establish an online presence—all on a free, virtual platform! The OAR encourages artists working in all art forms, throughout Ohio and beyond,  to create a profile, which allows them to better promote themselves and their work. Being listed in the OAR provides artists with new opportunities to share their work with clients, galleries, patrons, and audiences. A listing in the OAR does not confer an endorsement, approval, or verification by the Ohio Arts Council.

Bio

Nancy Crawford is an artist and owner of The Art Rookery, an art gallery and studio space in Greenfield, Ohio.  As a graduate of the Graphic Design Program of the University of Cincinnati, she has extensive knowledge of the design processes involved in creating products for public consumption.  She has built a strong skill set having worked in various commercial and educational settings ranging from the Chicago Museum of Art and Sciences, Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, the Big Walnut School District in Sunbury Ohio and Goal Digital Academy, an online instructional institution.  In addition to her Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design, Crawford holds a Master of Arts in Education from the Mount Vernon Nazarene University.  In 2015, she was granted a Master of Educational Leadership degree from Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, Ohio.

Over the span of her teaching career, Crawford mentored many budding artists and encouraged the students to participate in numerous community shows.  The successes of their hard work were evident in the recognition and awards given from prestigious competitions such as The Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Awards, The Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest, the Scholastic Art Awards and the Ohio Schools Magazine Cover Contest.

Understanding the necessity of art in people’s lives, Nancy Crawford has taken every opportunity to exhibit her work and interact with the community at large.  She has participated in several shows presented by the Mansfield Art Center in Mansfield, Ohio and the Village Artisans Gallery in Yellow Springs, Ohio.  She was given the opportunity to present work at the Red Rooster Gallery in Sunbury,Ohio, the Apple Butter Festival in Enon, Ohio and the Knox County Art League in Mount Vernon, Ohio.  In 2009 and 2011, Crawford received grants from the Delaware Arts Festival.  The grants allowed for two sculpture gardens to be created on the Big Walnut campus in Sunbury, Ohio.  She collaborated with community members, fellow artisans, students and parents to implement the planned gardens.  This is a fine example of her leadership skills. Crawford’s enthusiasm and creative spirit encourages and energizes those involved with her creative projects.

Crawford’s logo, based on her favorite bird, the great blue heron, was designed for her shop, The Art Rookery.  After the logo’s graphic design was refined for The Art Rookery outdoor sign, the job was contracted out to have it cut from steel and powder coated.  Nancy is currently working with the city of Greenfield to bring some similar metal Living History Sculptures and Benches project to fruition.

Artist Statement

My artwork is very eclectic, varied and usually very large. Sometimes it is collaborative. I don’t have a static “style”, I am always trying new things and reinventing my art. I keep coming back to the studio for the next big challenge, and that gives me joy!
