The Ohio Artist Registry (OAR) is an exciting opportunity for artists to share their work, connect with the creative community, and establish an online presence—all on a free, virtual platform! The OAR encourages artists working in all art forms, throughout Ohio and beyond,  to create a profile, which allows them to better promote themselves and their work. Being listed in the OAR provides artists with new opportunities to share their work with clients, galleries, patrons, and audiences. A listing in the OAR does not confer an endorsement, approval, or verification by the Ohio Arts Council.

Mariangela Scavo-Manno

Bio

I was born in Maierato, province of Vio Valentia in the Southern Italian Region of Calabria.  I developed a passion for the Arts at very young age.  I was inspired by my mother, a very well known seamstress, and by the age of ten I had learned to sew, do needlework embroidery (ricamo) and crochet.

Thanks to my Middle School Art teacher I acquired the passion for the arts, I learned drawing, painting and successfully completed my subjects in the arts and crafts.

In the late sixties, I graduated with a major in Fashion Design from the Istituto Professionale Femminile per I’Industria e I’Artgianato (Women’s professional Institute for the Arts and Industry) in Virbo Valentia.  By the age of twenty I had completed, by needlework the Hope Chest for my sister and myself.

I married in 1971 and relocated with my husband to Columbus, Ohio, where I soon enrolled in night school to learn English.  Not long after, I was juggling motherhood and studios, attended night classes at Columbus College of Arts and Design (CCAD).

Over the years, I have been working on various mediums, such as pencil, color pencil, inchiostro di china (ink), watercolor, gouache, pastels, acrylics and photography.

My work has been exhibited in numerous galleries throughout central Ohio and my photographs have been published in various calendars.  I’m very privileged to have my artwork exhibited at the Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition.

The last several years I have been traveling and photographing the Central United States exploring History Museums, Art Galleries, Botanical gardens and currently working on photographing and researching Ohio covered bridges and their history.
