My name is Malissa Schisler. I was born in Columbus, Ohio. My artwork was included in the Elemental Realms Exhibition ( February 7-27 2014) at Agora Gallery 530 West 25th Street New York, NY 10001
Artist Statement
Her work at once ethereal and passionate, American artist Malissa Schisler is inspired by what she finds within herself. Essentially self-taught, she works primarily in bold, primary color acrylics as well as photography. Whether exploring highly abstract forms and shapes or realistic tropes, these works are ardently spirited, and poignantly soulful. In her paintings, the artist blends organic, fluid drips with purposeful, pragmatic brushstrokes of brave, bright colors. Patterns of forms transcend expressionistically composed shapes and forms. Inspired by the world around her, in addition to contemporary popular culture such as films, Schisler portrays a deeply personal yet universal vision of the poetically empowering forces of artwork and art making. “It will crack you from your shell”, says Schisler of art. “You will gain confidence in yourself, and thrive”. Through believing in the art that she sees around her, as well as the art that she herself makes, she comprehends and utilizes the power of art. Raised in Ohio, Malissa Schisler lives and works outside Columbus, Ohio. She belongs to a vibrant local art community.
