The Ohio Artist Registry (OAR) is an exciting opportunity for artists to share their work, connect with the creative community, and establish an online presence—all on a free, virtual platform! The OAR encourages artists working in all art forms, throughout Ohio and beyond,  to create a profile, which allows them to better promote themselves and their work. Being listed in the OAR provides artists with new opportunities to share their work with clients, galleries, patrons, and audiences. A listing in the OAR does not confer an endorsement, approval, or verification by the Ohio Arts Council.

Bio

Jurnee Ta’Zion is a multimedia artist, muralist, and curator based in her hometown of Cleveland, Ohio. She comes from a family of Black artists, with a long lineage of creatives, from her ceramicist great-grandmother to her painter nephew. Art has surrounded her throughout her entire life. Her artistic journey began, however, at the Cleveland School of the Arts, was refined at Cleveland State University, and is being further developed at the Cleveland Institute of Art. She not only uses her art for her personal career, but has worked for organizations like Assembly for the Arts and Neighborhood Connections to celebrate, connect, and further cultivate the arts and culture community of Northeast Ohio. She is committed to continuing her journey of creating and growing alongside her city—not just for herself, but for those who once doubted a career in the arts was possible. Her goal is to give back to the community that shaped her while sharing with the region and the world that art holds the power to transform and enrich lives.

Recipient of the 2019 Scholastic Art and Writing Show Silver Key for her piece “Sun,” and Cleveland State’s Merit Scholar award from her sophomore to senior years, Jurnee has established herself through her curated Merit Scholar Exhibitions such as “B O U N D  T O,” “Mind and Matters,” both at The Galleries @ CSU, and another personal exhibition, “Life Be Lifing,” at Worthington Yards. She’s curated a solo exhibition at Loganberry’s Annex Gallery on Larchmere, and orchestrated an art exhibition and event, “H.A.L.O.,” bringing together local artists and creatives at Create-A-Space in Willowick, Ohio. She also displayed work in the 1st and 2nd Annual President’s Exhibition at Cleveland State University, on the first Cleveland Art Wall at Breakthrough Sounds, in Sculpture X’s “PERSONAL OBJECT” exhibition, the “FRESH LOOKS” exhibition at Eastern Michigan University, and more. Other notable feats include being a Featured Panelist in Breakthrough Sounds’ Artist Panel for the Cleveland Art Wall, exhibiting with the Black Scholars and Artists in the Reinberger Gallery at the Cleveland Institute of Art and at the 51st Ebony Ball at Case Western, and even being a Supporting Muralist with Impart 216, one of the six Transformative Arts Fund initiatives brought to Cleveland.

Artist Statement

Jurnee’s body of work serves as a profound exploration of her complex journey toward self-discovery and her unique perspectives on the world. She explores a diverse range of mediums, including painting, printmaking, drawing, ceramics, with a primary focus on sculpture and 3D art. Her creations aim not only to articulate and portray subjects challenging to express, but to overall inspire others to embark on a similar journey of finding solace, liberation, and growth through the realm of art.
