The Ohio Artist Registry (OAR) is an exciting opportunity for artists to share their work, connect with the creative community, and establish an online presence—all on a free, virtual platform! The OAR encourages artists working in all art forms, throughout Ohio and beyond, to create a profile, which allows them to better promote themselves and their work. Being listed in the OAR provides artists with new opportunities to share their work with clients, galleries, patrons, and audiences. A listing in the OAR does not confer an endorsement, approval, or verification by the Ohio Arts Council.

Bio
Julie Martin is a contemporary artist living in Northeast Ohio drawn to portraiture and figurative subjects. With a background in graphic design, the Denver, Colorado born artist also pursued a passion of painting. By rearranging pieces of images using a variety of mediums, she expands the visual creating a final product with an ironic twist calling this a fragmented style.
Where pieces line up next to each other is where the interest lies. This technique creates a sense of mystery and wonder to spend time with and enjoy.
Artist Statement
I’ve always enjoyed portraiture and figurative subjects. I create contemporary artworks by rearranging pieces of an image so the result is a fragmented painting.
I’m inspired by images with mystery, emotion or attitude. The process of moving the pieces (or slices) is exciting when tangents create tension, and how pieces align next to each other.
I do not paint, then cut up the canvas. I take the rearranged slices printed or digital, and paint from that as reference.
When each finished artwork comes together with fragmented parts – I’ve created something new. Something extra unique and interesting than it was before slicing.
