The Ohio Artist Registry (OAR) is an exciting opportunity for artists to share their work, connect with the creative community, and establish an online presence—all on a free, virtual platform! The OAR encourages artists working in all art forms, throughout Ohio and beyond,  to create a profile, which allows them to better promote themselves and their work. Being listed in the OAR provides artists with new opportunities to share their work with clients, galleries, patrons, and audiences. A listing in the OAR does not confer an endorsement, approval, or verification by the Ohio Arts Council.

Bio

As a young child, and into adulthood, I have dabbled at art of some kind. In the eighth grade I sent in a drawing, from a magazine, of a beagle. From that I was accepted into the same school that Norman Rockwell went to, however, my parents could not afford the tuition. I graduated from the University of Dayton with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and a concentration in Art and have continued to dabble in through my professional career. I have handed painted statuary and won a couple of first place ribbons. I also hand make Jewelry and have done so for many years. Color has always been a fascination for me and watching the light play with color in all its forms is magical and something that I strive for in my art. I have been awarded !st place in The Dayton Society of Artist’s Peace Accords show, Member’s Choice at the Fairborn Art Council’s Members Juried Show and had a piece exhibited In The Springfield Museum of Art’s member show for six months. The Springfield Museum of Art is the only affiliate of The Smithsonian in the state of Ohio; therefore, I also had a piece exhibited in The Smithsonian for six months.

I am a member of several galleries and exhibit frequently throughout Ohio

Artist Statement

As an artist, I have dabbled all my life. Realism was my goal at the beginning of my journey. However, as a retired individual, I have rediscovered the passion of my youth and am an Acrylic Pour, jewelry making (from my art), multimedia artist. I work with pigments, acrylic paints, hot wax, modeling paste and pouring mediums. I work in the multiple techniques of acrylic pours to achieve the interaction of color and light. Most of my pieces use Interference, Iridescent of Color Shift paints. The color shifts can be handmade or pigments or actual paint. The Interference and Iridescent paints need a dark background in order to display at their very best. They “interfere” with the light that is being absorbed by the dark background. As they grab that light, they fully display their beauty while at the same time creating depth. Color Shift Paints also play with the light as they change to an entirely different color depending on the angle of light and also what angle they are being viewed from. Larger pieces and smaller pieces achieve the “play” on light. I enjoy doing commissioned pieces. I form jewelry from pieces of paintings that I don’t like so the same interplay of light is happening as the paintings are done in the Interference, Iridescent, and Color Shift Paints. I am obsessed!!!

I also work with modeling paste, hot glue and heavy body acrylics to work on pieces that are dimensional on the canvas. These pieces are, at their smallest, 16×20. These “paintings” involve many layers of paint to create depth of color as most of the paints are either Transparent or Semi-transparent.
