David Griesmyer hasn’t a history of art schools and art classes. He went to a welding school to learn the different types of welding. While practicing a specific process, He let off the foot pedal that controls the heat. That caused the metal to solidify vertically and he had an epiphany. He didn’t need to stay flat but could go vertical in every direction with his welding. He then made a little hand coming out of the metal plate. Then a foot that led to a knee and up. A week later a sculpture of a man welding, holding a welding torch and wearing a welding mask, was in front of him, made entirely out out of steel. This was the start of his journey making sculptures.
