The Ohio Artist Registry (OAR) is an exciting opportunity for artists to share their work, connect with the creative community, and establish an online presence—all on a free, virtual platform! The OAR encourages artists working in all art forms, throughout Ohio and beyond,  to create a profile, which allows them to better promote themselves and their work. Being listed in the OAR provides artists with new opportunities to share their work with clients, galleries, patrons, and audiences. A listing in the OAR does not confer an endorsement, approval, or verification by the Ohio Arts Council.

Bio

I am a 75 year-old amateur photographer.  While in the army as a young man, I became interested in photography and later earned a master’s degree in visual communications at the University of Minnesota.  I taught photojournalism and graphic design at The Ohio State University for several years before pursuing a career in educational publishing.  During my 29 years in publishing, I held a variety of production positions and retired in 2012 as the Vice President of Production and Manufacturing for the Higher Education Division of Pearson Education.  After retiring, I studied digital photography at Columbus State.  My photography journey has led me to night photography and light painting.  I especially enjoy the challenge of lighting large scenes at night.

Artist Statement

As the sun sets and the skies darken, I love composing a scene, mounting my camera on the tripod and determining the my lighting strategy.   I used various flashlights and LED panels to individually light each part of the scene, often taking 20-40+ separate images.  Shooting one subject will usually take 1-2 hours.  After preliminary editing and review, I’ll combine the about 8-20 images into the final photograph using Lightroom and Photoshop.
