The Ohio Artist Registry (OAR) is an exciting opportunity for artists to share their work, connect with the creative community, and establish an online presence—all on a free, virtual platform! The OAR encourages artists working in all art forms, throughout Ohio and beyond,  to create a profile, which allows them to better promote themselves and their work. Being listed in the OAR provides artists with new opportunities to share their work with clients, galleries, patrons, and audiences. A listing in the OAR does not confer an endorsement, approval, or verification by the Ohio Arts Council.

Artist Statement

Barbara Nell Morejon Felting is a versatile art that allows the artist great latitude in approaching a subject. My creative decision making begins when deciding what kind of wool would be best for a sculptural form – Merino, Icelandic, or Corriedale, among others. Working with warm wet felt is so full of potential, it is like sculpting with warm butter. Experiential and experimental in nature, both my medium and my soul explore this material to test it to see how far it, and I can be pushed. I am always testing new materials, new techniques to see how they react, to understand its future potential to complete my vision. I use a combination of traditional wet felting and dry needle felting techniques, both traditional and modern in order to sculpt my pieces. My coat, hat, and dress, that you see in this show, are not sewn together each is felted in one continuous piece, they have no seams. The material is wool that has been sheared, cleaned, and carded, but not spun into yarn. The silk used was hand painted for this project. Then embellishments of beads and feathers are added at the end.
