The Ohio Artist Registry (OAR) is an exciting opportunity for artists to share their work, connect with the creative community, and establish an online presence—all on a free, virtual platform! The OAR encourages artists working in all art forms, throughout Ohio and beyond,  to create a profile, which allows them to better promote themselves and their work. Being listed in the OAR provides artists with new opportunities to share their work with clients, galleries, patrons, and audiences. A listing in the OAR does not confer an endorsement, approval, or verification by the Ohio Arts Council.

Anastasia King

Bio

Anastasia (Ana) King is an undergraduate student at the University of Toledo, working towards their BFA in 3-Dimensional studies with a minor in Art History; they will graduate in May of 2024. Born in Toledo, Ana grew up in the suburbs of Chicago with her Russian immigrant mother. As a semi-first-generation Russian American, identity is very important to Ana. Being queer and gender non-conforming, Ana’s work explores how to express such big ideas of identity and inner-turmoil in both representational and abstract works. While Ana occasionally works in painting, printmaking, and sculpting, their main passion is in ceramics. Ana has goals in having work in art institutions and to pursue a full-time career as a ceramicist and fine artist.

Artist Statement

I am fascinated with finding new ways to portray gender expression and experiences in relatable ways, no matter the identity. A prevalent message in my work is that gender is a fluid spectrum, not limited by the confines of sex assigned at birth. I put parts of the body that are often sexualized and stigmatized on display to show that beneath the surface, we are all created with the same building blocks, regardless of labels and terms.
