The Ohio Artist Registry (OAR) is an exciting opportunity for artists to share their work, connect with the creative community, and establish an online presence—all on a free, virtual platform! The OAR encourages artists working in all art forms, throughout Ohio and beyond,  to create a profile, which allows them to better promote themselves and their work. Being listed in the OAR provides artists with new opportunities to share their work with clients, galleries, patrons, and audiences. A listing in the OAR does not confer an endorsement, approval, or verification by the Ohio Arts Council.

Bio

Hailing from Toledo, Ohio, Adam found glass at age 15 when he took classes at the Toledo Museum of Art. Adam is drawn to the fluidity and permanence of hot glass, and the need to work as a team. He holds a BFA in Glass and Sculpture from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH. In 2012 he opened Gathered Glassblowing Studio, in downtown Toledo with partners Mike Stevens and Eli Lipman. As a production hot shop, Gathered furthers the legacy of the “Glass City” as the birthplace of the American Studio Glass Movement. Over the last decade the business has evolved to include large scale public art installations, custom interior objects and fixtures, and community oriented educational opportunities and events. As the lead designer at Gathered Adam’s work can be found in private and public art collections around the country. With over 15 site specific installations, the studio promotes glass as a dynamic, evolving media, to a growing national audience. Gathered’s commercial designs are carried by a number of renowned art institutions including the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Corning Museum of Glass and the Museum of Art and Design in NYC.

While the works produced at Gathered are displayed all over the country, the team emphasizes sustainability through local partnerships and investment in the community and ecology of northwest Ohio. As a steward of both the culture and environment of the region Adam promotes an integrated approach to landscape design and art.

Adam lives in Toledo with his wife, Andrea, and son, Aster.

Artist Statement

As a contemporary artist with roots in the studio glass movement, I am passionate about elevating glass as an artform. I build from tradition to continue the values, techniques, and philosophies that have been formative to me. I explore innovative techniques to achieve harmony between the fluidity, transparency, and color of the material. At my studio, which I operate with my partner Mike Stevens, we balance production of decorative and functional objects with research and development for large-scale sculpture, and public workshops and events. Each aspect of our practice provides us a unique opportunity to engage the community, and deepen public understanding and appreciation of glass.

All of my designs are permeated with my love for the natural world. The medium of glass offers rich possibilities in expressing the range of the colors, opacities, and textures of Earth. Simultaneously, I am inspired by the forms and philosophies of modern and classical architecture. By combining elements of nature with man-made structures and forms, ecology and wildlife stewardship join with aesthetic desires and human functionality, to create spaces where sustainability is incorporated into daily life.
